R. Stevie Moore = OUTRAGEOUS

So, I went to The Knitting Factory last night to see the Ariel Pink show, but the highlight of the night was certainly seeing R. Stevie Moore preform. I've been meaning to check him out for a while, and now I think I'm obsessed. He reminds me of my father (plus 50 lbs) on acid, super unkempt, and super angry at Miley Cyrus. CHECK OUT HIS WEBSITE BECAUSE ITS GREAT.

GOT IT.

I look like a confused chimp while trying to operate it, but I hope to learn how to use this thing fast, so I don't feel like such a jerk for spending $300 on a phone. I'm absolute sheer consumer trash, I know.

ultimate clusterf*ck of your life

I probably don't even need to ask you, because chances are that you were indeed at McCarren Pool on Sunday afternoon, or, er, at least standing outside of McCarren Pool in the drizzle and observing a bevy of hipsters, bridge and tunnel trash, and post-rehab Kiki Dunst wait in line for entrance to the MGMT/Black Moth Super Rainbow/Ting Tings show.

The pool parties are always a blast, and as long as you weren't being a wimp, this was no exception. What could be better then 10,000 drunk and rained-upon 20-somethings smoking soggy cigarettes and drinking $6 pints of flat beer? Answer: NOTHING!

To be honest, the sound was pretty bad - but that's probably just because there were a bazillion people talking the entire time, in a rainy, outdoor, cement pool. We didn't go so much for the music, as much as for the scene. Clustah-fuck 9,000!

so many shows, so lil' time!

For some reason, in the next two weeks I am going to see ample amounts of live music. Psychotically ample amounts of live music. I feel like CMJ week has descended already - but I suppose that's just because in mid-summer it's the peak season for touring and free live shows in NYC.

Let me know if anyone else will be hitting:

ATLAS SOUND - Friday, July 25 @ Seaport

MGMT / BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW - Sunday, July 27th @ McCarren Pool

RUBY SUNS / TILLY AND THE WALL - Tuesday, July 29th @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

ARIEL PINK - Wednesday, July 30th @ The Knitting Factory

WOLF PARADE - Thursday, July 31st @ Terminal 5

THE WAR ON DRUGS - Friday, August 1st @ Union Pool

Also - NY Mag is 4 haterz

Gawd, being quasi-famous for 12 minutes in the NYC cunty blogosphere is so so so HARD.

I can't say I entirely disagree with this Grub Street article.....

However, just because I have the best nickname ever, doesn't mean I deserve your twat-ish criticism. I didn't write the damn thing! Also, Cara Buckley is my new fave person ever, and SHE wrote the thing, and therefore you are not allowed to hate on her either. HUMPHF.

At least they gave Boozeabeth some extra name-droppings before my monicker fades away with the sun.

I'm a true sheerlebrity now! I'm drunk in the NY Times.

My debut in the pillar of journalism and factual news turns out to have been an amazing expose of my drunkness, and my extra-special nickname.

also, my coworkers are super-proud of me, and even did a nice little piece of their own, which you can read HERE

Sheerlebrity status shall expire in less then 16 hours, let me enjoy it while I can :)

fave 1980s NYC movies

So, like any average 20-something female in Brooklyn, I punctuated my dinner tonight by watching a TiVOed episode of the AMAZING 1990s animated series, "The Critic." If you haven't seen it, you really haven't lived.

Anyway the show's hysterical mockery of mainstream cinema and Hollywood figures, combined with its impeccably New York-ish humor got me thinking about my favorite '80s movies based in New York City. As far back as I can remember, the city that lay 45 minutes from my childhood home seemed dark, dirty, and monolithic - truly in line with what E.B. White would call the "symbolic city." After spending about a quarter of my life here (and my entire adult life, for that matter), I see things quite differently then I did as a lil' baybay in the 'burbs. I'm sure it has an equal amount to do with the way my adult brain perceives reality, as well as the extraordinary ways in which New York has changed in the past 20 years.

But damn, those movies still fill me with the nostalgia and misinterpretations of what I thought NYC meant, and what it meant to live here.

What are some of your favorite New York movies from your childhood? I'm starting the list below, but please feel free to add any suggestions in. There are tons and tons to choose from, but I'm limiting mine to the ones that hit theaters before I turned 7. And honestly, at age 5 I wasn't watching Gordon Gekko ruin lives or Paul Hackett get covered in plaster, so they don't neccessarily have to be kids' films, just movies that made the monolithic impression on you.

some faves:

1. GHOSTBUSTERS

2. WORKING GIRL

3. BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED

4. COMING TO AMERICA

5. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY

6. WALL STREET

7. AFTER HOURS

8. COCKTAIL

9. FATAL ATTRACTION

10. DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN

does this make me a terrible person??

I've been listening to a lot of Gary Glitter recently..... specifically, his Greatest Hits, specifically, "I'm the Leader of the Gang."

Hey, I'm in a slump. Truly though, this could be only making said slump even deeper.

At least I'm aiming to quit smoking (again) soon. Perhaps that will make up for listening to this unsavory chi-mo's tunes on repeat this week.

she's considering a move to EL AYY

Hi dearest ones -

After living in NYC for six years straight, I've decided to up the ante, bite the bullet, and move out west. I've visited LA 2x in the past few months, and the obsession is in full swing.

However, one thing that has really been bugging me is all the anti-LA sentiments I've been hearing from my supposed "friends" over here in the Big Crapple. One buddy even asked me to make a freakin' list to lay out all of the reasons why I like LA, and then compare it to reasons why we like New York, and then, oh mah my, he thought I'd be convinced to stay.

Look, it's not as though I'm in hate with Brooklyn - I'm just going to cheat on it for a year or two with a cleaner, prettier, skinnier, sunnier place. I will get tan and thin, I will practice my driving skills, and I will take weekend vacays to places I've never been. Meet people I've never met. You know, potentially increase my brain mass for a hot sec instead of letting it dwindle away amongst a cloud of booze and reggaeton.

I've been in New York ever since I graduated high school in 2002. I never spent a summer back home at my parents' house, I never studied abroad. It's time for a change :)

So, yea. Anyone want to rent my apt!?!??!

summerscreen update: it went well

REALLY well!

Check out the pics :)

Also a reporter from the NY Times interviewed yours truly, Boozeabeth, for an article about New Yorkers who basically binge drink for entertainment purposes on the weekends (or weekdays, as I eagerly proved to her). Can't wait to read the article, ignore the feelings of mortification, and frame that shit for my kids. ANYWAY, more on that as it develops!
